[UPDATE Oct. 27, 2017: The article now says the current SGLI coverage should be certified by the Soldier “before Sept. 30, 2018” rather than “within 30 days.”]

The Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) has moved to an online enrollment system (SOES), replacing the paper-based enrollment.

The SOES maintains elections and beneficiary information and provides 24/7 self-service access to SGLI information. SOES centralizes SGLI and Family SGLI data into one authoritative system capable of providing consistent SGLI/FSGLI information to members and their leadership.

The enrollment system is available through the MilConnect portal for Soldiers to enroll in SGLI, change their coverage or beneficiary election, and certify current SGLI coverage. The current SGLI coverage should be certified by the Soldier before Sept. 30, 2018.

All active-duty Soldiers, Army National Guard Soldiers, and USA Reserve Soldiers will update their SGLI using SOES during their annual records review, in-processing, out-processing, Soldier readiness processing, a significant life-changing event, separation, retirement, and deployment processing.

All Soldiers can access SOES through MilConnect using their Common Access Card or Department of Defense Self-Service log-on at Also, SOES online step-by-step training is provided at
