FORT BENNING, Ga. – The Soldier for Life-Transition Assistance team hosted its first ever Facebook live hiring event April 27, and it’s possibly the first time this Facebook technology has been leveraged by any SFL-TAP Center in the U.S. Army to connect transitioning Soldiers with prospective employers.
Fort Benning’s ability to think outside the box, along with their collaborative efforts with employers, have gained attention throughout the Army.
“Job fairs as we remember them are a thing of the past,” said Edwin (Eddie) G. Perez, Fort Benning Transition Services Manager. “Today they are actually hiring events … the day of going to a ‘job fair’ seeing a recruiter and handing them your resume’ is a thing of the past.”

During the event, there were 10,210 connections made with 3,649 people viewing the Facebook live video. The top 10 locations connected were Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Kentucky, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, Louisiana, North Carolina and Seoul, Korea.
Sixty-one employee partners attended the job fair with 94.6% of them reporting that they were satisfied. Lt. Col. Adam Grim, Soldier for Life Employment Director, kicked off the event by hosting a live Facebook video.

This event connected our overseas transitioning Soldiers, spouses, and veterans throughout the Army from South Korea, Japan and Germany to name a few.
This proved to be a welcomed opportunity for the overseas transitioning Soldiers as many of them do not get an opportunity to connect with stateside employers. The live broadcast was viewed in 45 countries and Alaska.
“Facebook Live was a great idea. I have already received resumes from Soldiers overseas and one Soldier drove onto the base to give me his resume,” said Stacey Evans, MDV SpartanNash. “First class event as always! I linked Soldiers up with my fellow human resources representatives in Texas and Florida.”

The Fort Benning SFL-Tap team is currently partnering with Erika Jaskolski, Fort Knox CPAC Director, at the recommendation of Karen Perkins, G-1 Director of Human Resources for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, to assist them with conducting their own Facebook live hiring event to fill their need for installation security guards as they prepare to expand to other locations.
