FORT BENNING, Ga. – When Col. Marie A. Dominguez, the former Commander of the Fort Benning Medical Department Activity, relinquished command to Col. Larry J. McCord on Nov. 17 she left behind a legacy of excellence.
Under Dominguez’ guidance, the Martin Army Community Hospital Empowerment Course was awarded a Gold Award for its Health Incentive Program setting the standard for Army Medicine, and she increased Tricare Plus enrollment by nearly 25% using a multifaceted “Welcome Home Campaign” along with face-to-face interactions with retirees.
Dominguez provided superb business expertise which helped increase the MACH operating room utilization to 90% resulting in the expansion of a fourth operating room and setting the stage for further expansion.
Dominguez also reduced private sector costs by almost seven percent while keeping the cost per patient below all forecast targets, and she reached across the services to bring patients into MACH saving the Department of Defense millions of dollars in network costs.
Additionally, Dominguez was able to execute her mission under budget in fiscal year 2016 and is on course to repeat it in fiscal year 2017 while ensuring quality care and outstanding customer service will be provided to beneficiaries in the Fort Benning community for years to come.
