Commander’s Message: A new Soldier’s first Thanksgiving …
From Maj. Gen. Eric Wesley, Commanding General, Fort Benning and the Maneuver Center of Excellence /
Something special occurs here at Fort Benning every Thanksgiving.
Soon to be Infantrymen, Tankers, and Scouts, share their first Thanksgiving meal away from home with their new family, the Army family. These future combined arms Soldiers were civilians just a few weeks ago, but over that brief time they have shared and endured the rigors of initial Army training as they transition into the Army.
This Thanksgiving meal with their new family will leave a lasting impression. The camaraderie and the spread of food will be something to behold.
But most importantly, our newest Soldiers will witness their Drill Sergeants, commanders, and first sergeants serving them. A powerful Army tradition that reinforces our Army Values; Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve with these new Soldiers and the great non-commissioned officers, officers, and civilians that train and support the IET mission, which involves everyone here at the Maneuver Center of Excellence.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of the year. We should all reflect on our blessings and remember those from our ranks who are deployed in harm’s way.
Thank you for your service and untiring devotion to our important mission.
One Force, One Fight!
